About Me

I work in IT and have done so for many years, both in the public and private sectors, as an employee and self-employed Consultant. I’m about to begin an exciting new role in the public sector.

My IT career began when I used an Amstrad PCW9512 to create a database of defendants while working for The Crown Prosecution Service in North London. Please don’t laugh, that Amstrad replaced indexed cards!

After that display of initiative, I was promoted and moved to CPS HQ. There I worked in a team allocating and monitoring resources, establishing a Novel NetWare network and working on nation-wide Key Performance Indicators systems for the Director of Public Prosecutions. Deciding to concentrate fully on IT, I took a voluntary exit package and returned home to Edinburgh.

I was employed as IT Support at The Leith Agency, Scotland’s best know advertising agency. After several years, I was promoted to IT Manager and ran the department covering our Edinburgh and London offices. The role was demanding and wide ranging, encompassing networking, security, financial systems, procurement and purchasing, mobile and landline telephony, office moves, company acquisitions, mergers and splits and of course meeting people’s needs and concerns. After nineteen years, I felt the need to branch out and therefore resigned to become my own boss.

For the last six years, I have worked as a self-employed consultant with a number of companies and individuals. It’s been a source of pride that most of my work has been sourced by word of mouth. I covered everything from strategic consultancy to first line support, and am entirely cross-platform.

Things change, of course, and after enjoying working with all my clients, I have decided to move back into the world of full time employment, with a great public sector body.

As you can tell from the rest of this site, my hobbies and interests include fountain pens, journalling, admiring watches, DE (Double Edged) shaving, daschunds, learning Dutch and photography.

Thanks,

David
